Scenario 1 Scenario : Wake Up! (played:26.2.02)
This scenario was played as a "graduation day game" for the new players we've been recruiting. Over the past few months we've organized some simple introduction scenarios to teach them the Battleground: WWII rules. After they learned the rules well enough, we organized a game that would incorporate as many facets of the game as we could, as well as hidden movement. It was also Purim, a Jewish holiday, so we had a vacation and time to play a serious battle. Again I will express my hope that some day, the only battles will be on the table and the only casualties will be plastic soldiers. But meanwhile it is not so, and the current situation in Israel is very taxing and sad.

So, onward to the battlefield!

The Background:December 3, 1941, on the outskirts of the village of Molitovsk. The hour: 6:00am
The German Wermacht is well inside Russia. A light dusting of snow is covering the ground, and the Germans are already cursing the problems it brings. Earlier in the night, a motorized company was moving up to the front line for relief duty. In the early dawn, due to the heavy fog, part of the company somehow got separated. Apparently it was due to reported sightings of Soviet armor in the area.

Note: All the characters' speech has been translated into English for your convenience. The script is available in Russian and German as well, just send me an email ;)

Note 2: While both sides playing were basically new to the game, the German commanders fared far worse and made some huge tactical blunders, that you can read about in the conclusion. In the story, I'll try to account for the somewhat irrational moves made by the German commanders. It might not sound logical, but neither was the strategy. I was GM during this game, since I was teaching the rules.
