Mechs are actually very easy to paint, but trouble to assemble because they are metal. We're talking about Ral Partha's line- great looking minis!
Assembly
Start by cleaning off all the metal leftovers. To glue the parts together you'll need epoxy glue- the stuff that comes in 2 containers that you mix together. Make a batch of epoxy and apply it to the parts you want to glue with a toothpick. Be generous. Now, hold the parts together and use clay to temporarily fasten the parts until the glue dries, which can take a while. I would not suggest removing the clay from the parts for at least 2 days, and not painting for another day after you remove the clay.
In the general scheme of things, you should first assemble the legs (if needed), then torso and arms, and only then glue the whole thing together.
Painting
Painting Mechs is easy and fun. Just spray black and paint whatever scheme you want- depending on the affiliation of the mech and its role. Since mechs are relativley big minis, it just makes it easier to paint the details.
