Scenario 1 of Op: Stiletto- Shifting Tide (partIII)
Part III
A turn later...
The Dasher dashed headlong into the woods, using its speed (and it has speed!) to flank the Thor. The Dasher pilot turned, confident that it could exploit the 70 ton mechs' thin rear armor. These are the final transmissions heard from Johnny Depper, the Dasher's Mechwarrior-
Alpha (the lance commander), I've got the enemy Thor in sight... He doesn't know what's hit him, ha ha... I'm turning to obtain optimal firing stan- what!? where is it!? It disappea- (static)
Before Depper finished the "disappeared", an AC/20 slug smashed into the mech's paper thin rear armor (as if the rest of the Dashers armor isn't) from the Thor's UAC/20, who had soared up on it's JJets to land comfortably behind the 20 ton scout.
Now meanwhile, in the left hand woods, the Mad and Nova Cats chased the Owens around until due to the dense heavy woods, the 35 ton machine ran smack into the almost smiling face of the Mad Cat, who proceeded to pound the snot out of it (critical hit on the Owens LRM-5 ammo, 24 rounds). Although the 2nd LOT lost a good scout, the Mad/Nova Cats were taken completely out of position- deep into the heavy woods.
As a result, the lumbering fire support Viking was left stranded in the open. This was the ELH's fatal mistake. The Vulture, Thor and Daishi were all on hand to take apart the 90 ton machine- they closed to short range, where the Viking's many LRMs were not effective (IS models have a minimum range of 12"), and blasted it with heavy ACs and pulse lasers. A leg was blown off and the mechwarrior ejected. A few turns later,
as both sides main forces and artillery were moving in, the order was given to withdraw with all mechs that could (for both sides).
Aftermath
Although the ELHs forces eventually took the warehouse (outside the battle- this is part of the storyline), the 2nd LOT succeeded in it's real objective- to inflict losses and stall the ELH until the main force could land at a base 35 km north of the warehouse.
Bottom line: victory for house Marik, and by a nice margin too. And it really happened that way, I'm not making this up just because I played the Marik forces. Really...
