The Owens meanwhile, had spotted two structures in the base- they were some sort of large missile launchers.
This was promptly relayed to the Operation Commander from Alliance Mining, and the new orders were to destroy the launchers and to
seize anything that might point to the persons behind everything.
And so the Owens dashed inside, heedless of the Hollander above it, maybe relying on speed to make for a hard target.
The 35 tonner poked away at the launch platforms with lasers, taking care not to hit the missiles themselves. The
Avatar and Hatchetman followed on the Owens' heels , dealing with the infantry who were blasting away with lasers.
One platoon was silenced quickly by combined fire. This left Rossokovsky, the Hollander pilot and also a fine shot, to swivel in place and line
up his mech's huge Gauss rifle on the Owens' rear torso. Rossokovsy pompously sent us this picture of gunsight a moment before the shot.
And a moment after.
The Gauss slug had penetrated the rear right torso and completely destroyed it, internal structure and all, thus causing 3 critical XL engine hits. The moral: don't let anyone take potshots at your rear torso with
anything that causes 15 or more damage.
Luckily for Dave's Daredevils, the Avatar and Hatchetman were both jump equipped, so they promptly hopped over the smoldering Owens
and continued from where it left off. In a large part due to the Avatar's AC 20 (which somehow survived possible critical hits to the arm), short work was made of both the launchers. All the
while, the Hollander and Thunderbolt were firing away from the hill crests, with limited success.
